All About Hydrosols
What are they?
When a plant is distilled, it is broken down into two components: essential oil and hydrosol. A hydrosol, also known as floral water or hydrolat, is water infused with the essence and spirit of a plant. Since hydrosols contain only trace amounts of essential oil, they are a gentler way of interacting with the spirit of the plant and are safe to use directly on the skin.
Why hydrosols?
Our hydrosols are made in a traditional copper alembic still which is a method that has been used for over a thousand years. In a process both scientific and magical, the alembic still combines earth (plant material), water, fire, and air to create hydrosols. We make each batch of hydrosol from plants that are grown or wild crafted at Heartstone Hermitage.
How are they used?
Hydrosols can be used in many applications. They can be used as, facial toners, hair tonics, room refreshers, mild cologne/perfume, linen refreshers and as a tool for intention setting.
Hydrosols should be stored in cool, dark place and are best used in six months.
