White Sage Hydrosol

$22.00

Notes: Sage, dried wood, desert sun, a hint of mint
Uses: Facial toner, linen spray, ritual work, meditation

Size: 50ML

White sage is a plant of hot sun and dry ground. Fine hairs give its leaves their silver-white color and help the plant hold onto water through long, hot summers. Its scent is resinous and clean, and it seems to clear a room as soon as it’s released. Salvia apiana grows best in the coastal sage scrub and chaparral of Southern California and northern Baja California, and out to the edges of the Sonoran and Mojave deserts. It likes dry, well-drained soil, mild wet winters, and long summers without rain.

For thousands of years, white sage has been in relationship with the Native peoples of the lands now known as North America. As white sage has become a commercial product, wild stands have been over-harvested, often illegally. That has strained the plant’s native habitat and made it harder for Native communities to reach a plant at the center of their own practices.

Our white sage hydrosol is made entirely from plants we grow ourselves at Heartstone Hermitage. We harvest the leaves at the end of the growing season, just before the winter rains bring them down. We will only ever make this hydrosol from sage we tend ourselves, so nothing we offer comes from wild land.
